Colored with cocoa powder. ****** We realized that some people have never heard of the Thieves essential oil blend.  Below is the history of that blend.  We are not making any claims about this soap.  We are  simply telling the history behind the origin of the name of this Thieves essential oil blend. For thousands of years, essential oils have been used for perfume and healing.  There are various stories regarding the origins of the "Thieves" essential oil blend and the blend varies in each story.  One such story dates back to the 15th century when the bubonic plague hit Europe.  Several thieves went about their business of robbing the deceased of their valuables.  The bodies were still highly contagious with the plague. However, these thieves never contracted the disease. It was said that they wore hats and masks that smelled of vinegar, garlic and herbs.  The herbs consisted of cloves, lemons, cinnamon, wormwood, eucalyptus and rosemary.  Other ingredients may have also been added like meadowsweet, which masked the odor of the decomposing bodies.  When caught, they shared their secret recipe in exchange for leniency.
